Who We Are

We’re actually serious about great sound and video

Very Serious Media helps businesses, organisations & filmmakers to tell their stories using sound and video. From end-to-end production for businesses and organisations, to filling specific roles in larger productions, VSM helps to get peoples stories out into the world looking and sounding their very best.

The business is chiefly driven by its founder Nick Storr, assisted by a small army of contracted sound designers, motion designers, cinematographers, editors and composers who can swing into action to create video, music and sound design for screen projects of any size, across television, social/web videos, and short film.

We’re based in beautiful Southern Tasmania, but we can (and do) create work for clients from pretty. much anywhere in the world!

About Nick Storr

Hey, I'm Nick! When I was in primary school I used to drive my parents mad pulling radios apart to see how they worked. It was only a matter of time before I discovered the joys of making my own recordings, and before too long I was making multi-layered productions using a pair of cassette recorders (remember those?) and a mini-mixer from Tandy Electronics (remember them?)

I spent most of my school years teaching myself all about sound and music production, and soon added film to the repertoire, starting with my Grandfather's old 8mm film camera, and working up from there, recreating some favourite movie scenes with what I could find around the house.

I still have most of the old tapes and film reels from this time, and I recently dug them out to have a look. They're... pretty bad actually. But it was the start of a lifelong passion for sound, music & film.

My first "proper job" was in the mid-90s Hobart TV broadcast industry - then still a relative hotbed of studio and field production. We were making news, magazine-style shows, TV commercials, kids television, regular outside broadcasts of events. Over the course of an action-packed nine year period I jumped feet-first into any and every role I could have a chance at - studio camera, videotape operator, audio mixer, sound recordist, graphic artist, EFP camera operator...

In 2004 I left my full-time job to pursue a University degree with majors in English and Journalism, while continuing to work as a media freelancer.

I eventually landed at Blue Rocket Productions in 2007, where I worked as an audio engineer and sound-designer on the animated TV series Pixel Pinkie.

I started Very Serious Media back in 2010 - initially as an entity to provide music and sound design work for television and film clients. Over time demand started to increase for a broader range of sound and video productions services, and in 2020 I made the decision to transition the business into a comprehensive services provider.
