BRANDING VIDEOS

Hobart design firm Futago came to Very Serious Media to help produce these fun social videos for their client HPA Australia. We worked closely with them for several weeks, bringing their brilliant designs to life with live action footage and animation/motion graphics.

We really loved the opportunity to stretch out into a variety of styles on this one. From surreralist collage-style animation to arcade games, psychedelia, and Saul Bass-inspired film openers, none of the five videos are remotely alike.

We don’t have favourite projects here at VSM, but if we did, this would definitely be one of them.

SOCIAL MEDIA VIDEO

Hobart communications agency Cor Comms came to us to help with post-production and compositing animated and live action elements together for this fun social media video

The video depicts a group of young/diverse people letting themselvs into a darkened council hall, where a glowing animated table appears in front of them. VSM was brought on to edit the final video, and to track/composite the live action and graphical elements together. We attended the location shoot to provide advice on practical lighting and camera movements to help lay the foundation for a successful post-production process. Some subtle practical lighting on-set to represent the desk allowed the animated elements to blend more realistically with the background videos.

Over the following few days we edited the video rushes together to build the story, then animated the table and the iconography on the tabletop. Compositing and motion tracking tied the animated and video elements together, then a colour grade and sound mix finished the piece.

VIDEO PROFILE SERIES

A series of documentary style videos to showcase the stories of Advocacy Tasmania clients and advocates.

In this ongoing series, Advocacy Tasmania asked us to help spotlight individual stories from their clients and professional advocates.

We started by visiting and interviewing the subject of each video, either in their home or in the community. Emphasis was placed on running a low-profile shoot, with minimal equipment and disruption to enable people to feel comfortable to share their stories in their own words.

We then edited those longer conversations into more concise cutdowns, added music, captions, b-roll and graphics to make short, effective video stories.

ELEARNING VIDEO SERIES

A multi-part series of videos for Advocacy Tasmania

Advocacy Tasmania approached us to assist in creating a series of eLearning videos. Advocacy Tasmania’s professional advocates to an amazing job helping vulnerable people to stand up for themselves, but they wanted to produce an easily consumed series of videos to help empower people to start making those first steps themselves.

Given the diverse audience, including elderly, disabled, and vulnerable community members, our commitment to accessibility took centre stage. We employing simple, conversational language in scripting, cast articulate and friendly on-screen talent from Advocacy Tasmania’s staff, and recorded all seven videos across a tw0-day video shoot.

Animated text and iconography (designed for maximum digestibility), music selection and a sound mix finished the videos off, and they went live across Advocacy Tasmania’s social media channels shortly after!
