Advocacy Tasmania

Series of several short profile videos and a 7-part eLearning program

Throughout the past year, our collaboration with Advocacy Tasmania resulted in the creation of a compelling series, featuring both client and staff profile/testimonial videos, along with a comprehensive 7-part “Self Advocacy” eLearning program. The initiative kicked off with a brief in late 2022, where I initiated discussions on budget, project scope, and style, aligning with our meticulous project and relationship management process as outlined in Criterion 6(a). In adherence to Advocacy Tasmania’s style guide, acquired during the process, production commenced on the client/staff videos in January 2023.

A separate brief for the “Self-Advocacy” series was received in March 2023, outlining the project’s intended purpose, target audience, mandatory messages, and proposed tone/style. Given the diverse audience, including elderly, disabled, and vulnerable community members, our commitment to accessibility took centre stage. The production prioritised easy digestibility, employing simple, conversational language in scripting, selecting articulate and friendly on-screen talent, and designing graphics with optimal legibility. To enhance accessibility, I provided captions in both SRT file format and “burned in” options, allowing flexibility in viewing contexts.

Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania

Fisheries management explainer/educational video series

Very Serious Media was approached in February 2022 with an open brief for an animated video series on fisheries management. After generating an accepted proposed scope of work and cost estimate, we then met with representatives from the Department and began to further negotiate the content and form of the initial videos. Some artwork had already been commissioned by the Department, and they were keen to use this in the produced videos in order to keep a consistent visual style. We also regularly checked our work against the Tasmanian Government Communications: Style Guide and Logo Policy. Once approved creatively, the videos were transcribed, and SRT subtitle files were provided to enable captioning on YouTube.

Over the course of the following 12 months we produced around 8 finished animated videos which were well received by the client, adhered to communications and brand policies and addressed accessibility standards.

RPS Consulting/TasNetworks

North West Transmission Developments explainer videos

In mid-2022, RPS Consulting enlisted our expertise to create a pair of engaging explainer videos for TasNetworks’ North West Transmission Developments (NWTD), using blend of animation, b-roll footage, music, and a professional voiceover. Initial discussions and a detailed project brief from RPS paved the way for us to prepare a project scope and cost estimate, and then commenced work, aligning with our established project and relationship management process.

RPS supplied a library of existing artwork, and brand guidelines for TasNetworks and the NWTD, and the videos were created in accordance with these. This included the production of a number of new graphics assets which had to blend with those provided.

Transcription and captioning, supported by both SRT files and “burned in” copies, further enhanced accessibility in various contexts.
